Committees and Organizations

Would you like to take a more active part in Jewish life? At Beth Israel, you'll find numerous opportunities to join other people who share your interests and concerns and are getting involved as never before.

If you're interested in learning more about Jewish traditions and practice, Beth Israel offers a number of adult education programs, a monthly book club and a popular Adult B'nai Mitzvah class.

Our Sisterhood and Brotherhood offer outstanding meetings every other month with guest speakers and special programs on a variety of topics - everything from Israeli politics to child - rearing, to time management. Both groups are significant service and fund - raising arms of our congregation, and participate in social action projects. When you join the Beth Israel Sisterhood, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're helping to build a stronger, more dynamic congregaton while establishing closefriendships and reaching out to others.

The Pre - School PTO and the Religious School Parent Association are busy, active arms of their respective school bodies, supporting a wide variety of programs - social activities, talks by guest experts, fund - raising sales and galas - that enrich the child - rearing years for Beth Israel's families.

The Beth Israel Adult Choir, for congregants who enjoy "making a joyful noise" together, sings with our cantor on the Jewish holidays.

You can fulfill your desire to be involved in social action by reaching out to others in our community in a number of ways. Our Mitzvah Day, for example, brings out 600 to 700 of our congregants to take part in volunteer activities within the synagogue and in the community. Our Beth Israel Cares committee works year round on projects that improve the quality of life for people in need of support.

Primetimers is a special group for people who are available during the day. Many members are older adults and congregants who are retirees. Monthly meetings feature interesting guest speakers, schmoozing and socializing, and sharing cultural interests.

And, of course, Beth Israel offers numerous opportunities for volunteer involvement. You can help build and strengthen our congregation by serving on a committee, helping in the office, or by taking part in many other activities that are critical to the health and vitality of our synagogue.
