Officers and Board of Trustees Sue graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in December, 1975 with a B.A. in Hearing and Speech Science and went on to Loyola College where she graduated with a M.S. in Speech Pathology. She was hired as a Speech Pathologist for the Baltimore County Public Schools in 1977, where she is employed today at Fort Garrison Elementary School. Additionally, Sue runs a small private practice, providing speech and language therapy to children of all ages. Sue holds an Advanced Professional Certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education, a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and a Maryland State License in Speech Pathology. The extended, multigenerational Rabin family has been involved at Beth Israel for many years. Sue's parents, Eudice and Martin (z'l) Lowenthal joined Beth Israel shortly after the Congregation was chartered. Eudice has been a member of Sisterhood for all of those years and is currently the coordinator of Beth Israel's very popular book club. Saul and Etta Rabin, both of blessed memory, joined Beth Israel in 1983 when they moved to Baltimore from down south. Saul was a teacher in our religious school for 18 years, finally retiring for good in his mid 80's. A scholarship, given each year in memory of Saul to a member of our Vav graduating class, was established by the Rabin Family following his passing in 2005. Phil is a Past President of the Congregation, making Sue and Phil the first couple who have both served in this capacity. Sue's involvement at the shul began by volunteering in the Religious School. After chairing Chanukah dinners, Purim carnivals and many other events, Sue became Parent Association President, serving as Co President for 3 years. She then went on to become chair of the Beth Israel School Board, and served in that capacity for many years before joining the Executive Committee as Recording Secretary and then VicePresident. Through the years, Sue has been involved in several other community organizations. Sue is currently a life member of Hadassah, and had previously been actively involved in The Child Study Association of Maryland and the Camp Committee of the Jewish Community Center. Sue is amazed that the little girl who once attended Religious School in the original white cottage on Liberty Road is now serving as congregational President. She is proud to serve as President of the Congregation that has become her family's second home and to share the leadership of Beth Israel with an outstanding Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. | |||||||||||||
