Youth Groups

Beth Israel boasts an active and vibrant Youth Department. We offer a variety of activities, programs, and initiatives to ensure that all of Beth Israel's youth and teens remain connected to the congregation and Jewish life. Our goal is to provide Jewish experiences for our youth through fun, invigorating, and educational programs to reinforce a Jewish identity. In addition to our four youth groups from 2nd grade through high school, we also maintain contact with our college students through outreach projects and holiday packages.

BONIM: Beth Israel's youngest youth group is BONIM, and our 2nd and 3rd graders can't wait for the fun this year! Hebrew for ?builders?, these members have bi! This year, BONIM has bounced around at Pump It Up, had a Shma Pillow/Movie night, enjoyed pizza and decorations in the Sukkah and more. Marcy Snow is our group leader for BONIM. MACHAR: Led by its amazing advisor Marcy Snow, MACHAR (4th & 5th grade) has one event a month that involves fun, games, creativity, tzedakah projects, and friends! This year's activities included an interactive Chocolate Night, solving the Corn Maze and Sukkah night. This is a great way to socialize with your Jewish friends and meet new ones too.

KADIMA: Beth Israel?s KADIMA presents fun social events, religious experiences, and community service projects for Beth Israel's middle schoolers. This year has been filled with activities such as a trip to Splashdown in Columbia, Interactive Willy Wonka Night, Pizza and Decorating school supplies for needy children. Beyond our chapter programming, Kadimaniks have the opportunity to meet other Jewish friends from all over Seaboard region (Maryland, D.C., Virginia and North Carolina) at many regional events and weekend getaways. Our advisor, Rachel Dressin helps to create this inviting atmosphere for our young teens.

USY: Beth Israel has an award-winning USY chapter, organized and led by USY president Allison Hayes and the board members. USY has a variety of events that are fun and social while including Jewish holiday, Israel, and Tzedakah aspects. There's something for everyone in USY! This year's highlights included our New Year?s Shabbat Dinner, Laser Tag, B?more USY events (with 5 B?more chapters) and travel to Seaboard USY regional programs and weekends. You won't want to miss the fun this year! Look for our mailings and e-mails about our future events.       COLLEGE OUTREACH: Beth Israel supports our young adults who are away from home studying at universities and colleges across the US and all over the world. The goal of our program is to continue a relationship with these students and connect them to their shul and Jewish life. Email, care packages and visits to local campuses are our ultimate goals. Join our facebook page: BIOM College.

OTHER PROGRAMS: Beth Israel's Youth Department leads Jr. Congregation each Shabbat morning and encourages all families to try out our RUACH (spirit) filled service. We also host the CLAIRE SODDEN MEMORIAL WEEKEND which remembers an active Beth Israel teen who lost her battle with cancer at a young age. This weekend is the opportunity for ALL of BIOM Youth to take part in a Shabbaton.
