10:00 AM - 12:00 PMZoom

As we reach the 82nd anniversary of Kristallnacht, we invite you to join us on Zoom for this special learning opportunity. Was there a “good Nazi?” The film chronicles the search for evidence of one Nazi officer’s attempt to rescue thousands of Jews in Lithuania. Join Professor Richard Freund and a team of geoscientists in their work to uncover this story of Karl Plagge’s heroism and “moral choices in the most immoral of circumstances.”

Dr. Richard A. Freund is the Bertram & Gladys Aaron Professor of Jewish Studies at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. Professor Freund has directed over a dozen archaeological projects in Israel, including sites associated with the beginnings of Christianity and Judaism at Nazareth, Bethsaida, and Qumran, the site of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

For additional context on this program, please read this article in the Los Angeles Times which discussed the Vilna Labor Camp that is the focus of The Good Nazi.
