Shabbat Experiences at Beth Israel
Beth Israel Congregation has a wide range of Shabbat services which appeal to our members’ diverse demographics and interests. The range of programming outlined below reflects what takes place when our facility is fully in use. As we move beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, we are well on our way to resuming our regular programming. in the meantime, please join us on Shabbat mornings throughout the summer in the Sanctuary, or on Zoom.
Shababa Friday Nights (ages 2-5) – Join us for an interactive Shabbat service for young children and their grown-ups. Followed by potluck dinner
Shabbat Nefesh - A Friday evening Shabbat service with a focus communal singing that is accessible to everyone. We choose a few short phrases from the beautiful Friday night liturgy on which to focus. The words and transliteration are displayed on large posters around the room as well as on songsheets.
Shababa Shabbat Mornings (ages 2-5) – Join us for an interactive Shabbat service for young children and their grown-ups. Followed by snacks, playtime, and congregational Kiddush. Kids are invited to join the Torah procession at 10am in the David Phillip Gresser Sanctuary!
ReJewvenate Shabbat – Renew and refresh your faith and spirituality during this informal, welcoming Shabbat service at Beth Israel. Sponsored by the Hilda and Gilbert Hillman Endowment Fund.
Alternative Minyan – Explore new ways to pray and connect. A casual, come-as-you-are service including discussion, song, and participation in a comfortable, supportive environment.
Beginyan (ages 5-11) – A beginners minyan in the Chapel. Followed by congregational Kiddush.
N & N Shabbat: – We offer two programs to choose between.
-Namaste & Niggunim, a Jewish fusion of singing, spiritual meditation, and chant, or
-Nourishment for the Neurons, a text-based discussion on the week’s Torah portion with a guest educator
Shabbat on the Go! - Shabbat on the Go! is a program that brings Shabbat experiences out of the synagogue and into the Community. From the intimacy of peoples’ homes to bigger venues for the whole community to gather, we aim to engage all community members and friends.
BIOM Teen Service (grades 8-12) – A short service and Torah discussion for teens, followed by a short activity/social hour, following congregational kiddush.
Kiddush Conversation - Select Saturdays, 12:30 pm. These Conversations provide an opportunity for our community to explore topics beyond the standard Shabbat fare in a casual environment. And, we get to savor Shabbat together just a little bit more!
Outdoor Services – Select Fridays at 6:30 pm. June through August, we worship in our beautiful atrium or outdoor sanctuary, weather permitting.
