December 13, January 17 and February 14, 7:00-8:15 pm on Zoom

Join us for lively discussions of short fiction by outstanding contemporary authors.

  • "Potatoes" by Tova Mirvis: -The acclaimed American writer of short stories and novels tells a touching immigrant story of a young woman from Belarus struggling to learn English and adapt to her new life in America, and how she finally finds her voice.
  • "Goodeed" and "Pride and Joy" by Etgar Keret, bestselling Israeli filmmaker and author known for his extremely short stories that pack a punch, often with humor.  The first story explores the motives of people who start competing to do good deeds, and their consequences. The second plays out what can happen when parents invest everything in their only child.
  • "The Secret of 16/B" by Michael Oren, the American born Israeli statesman who you probably never knew also writes fiction.  In this fascinating story, an Israeli archeologist makes a startling discovery and faces an ethical dilemma.
Copies of the stories will be distributed several weeks before each session so that participants can read them in advance. Short stories will be available as PDFs or hard copy for pick up at the synagogue.
